Service & Leadership

I have held leadership roles in student organizations at Virginia Tech. I served as Vice President of the Omicron Delta Kappa Circle at Virginia Tech, supporting leadership development and organizational initiatives. In addition, I currently serve as Treasurer of the Sri Lankan Student Association at Virginia Tech, managing organizational finances and supporting community-building activities.

Awards & Honors

I have received several awards and recognitions in acknowledgment of my contributions to teaching, research, and academic service during my studies. Most recently, in March 2025, I was honored with the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching. This award was presented by the Department of Geography and the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech.

I have participated in several conferences and workshops as part of my academic and research engagement during my studies. Most recently, in November 2025, I participated in the IPON In-Person Workshop in Accra, Ghana, which focused on collaborative research on climate–food–health systems with Indigenous communities. This workshop brought together researchers from multiple countries and supported interdisciplinary discussion, knowledge exchange, and collaborative research planning.

Community Outreach

I have been involved in community outreach activities as part of my academic and professional engagement during my studies. Most recently, in January 2025, I served as a panelist at the Graduate School Student Orientation at Virginia Tech, engaging with incoming graduate students and sharing perspectives on graduate life and research pathways. In addition, I participated in Nutshell Games, at Virginia Tech an interactive community engagement activity that fosters collaboration, communication, and peer connection.
